As I’ve been on this journey, I’ve learned so much! I’ve tried several programs, apps and products in the last 6 months and I wanted to share some of my faves with you. If you have any questions, drop me a line in the comments, connect with me on social media or via email.
MyFitnessPal - I started using MyFitnessPal (the first time) in 2015 because I wanted to track my calories. Most recently, my girl, Bri encouraged me to start using it again to track my food, calorie intake, water and progress photos. There’s a free version and a paid version. I started with the free version and it was great. You can track your weight and add progress photos which is awesome. After some time of using the app daily, I decided to purchase the paid version as it has some additional features that was very helpful for me with tracking my goals. For example, in the paid version, you can set up goals by the meal in addition to your overall health and weight loss goals. In the paid version, MyFitnessPal offers several 28-day plans to help you reach your daily goals. I also like that I can use the app or log in to my account on the computer. They also have a great blog and news feed in the app. They frequently posts workout videos or other nutrition related information. Also, the app can be linked to your health app on your iPhone. This allows any exercise activity to be automatically synced. MyFitnessPal syncs with other apps as well such as MapMyRun (Ride, Fitness, Run or Walk), Fitbit Tracker, Garmin Connect, Strava, etc. Overall, MyFitnessPal is one of my favorite apps and I use it daily! 2. Go Girl Journal - This journal has been a life saver. First, it comes in several cute colors! You know that’s important to me because color can influence your mood. Second, it’s small and fits in my purse so I can take it with me and not feel like I’m carry a big and bulky journal. The journal is completely customizable which was huge draw for me. The pages are set by the week and includes monthly pages and will last one year. The journal comes with stickers you can use to customize as well. You can track your goals & habits and there’s additional space which can be used for to-do’s or affirmations. For me, I write down all of my exercise including what I did, how long and how I felt during and after. It also allows me to track my progress. For example, on my entry on January 16, I went to spin class for 30 minutes and I rode my fastest speed to date of 98 RPM’s (revolutions per minute)! Yaaassssss! I’m also happy to report that since that day, I’ve been able to increase my fastest speed to 111 RPM’s. And back to our regularly scheduled program. Technically, it’s a planner but I use it as a journal. The Go Girl Planner is easy to use, transport and make it work for you. It also comes at a great cost. 3. Resistance bands - As I was trying to find exercises I can do at home easily, I came across resistance bands. And OMG I love them! First, they are simple and easy to use, convenient and they don’t take up any space in the home. They are also really inexpensive which makes them great to add to your workout. I also appreciate that you don’t have to be “fit” to use them. I use them mainly based on strength-training type moves. For example, I use them to do bicep curls instead of using barbells. Simply stand on one end of the cord and curl the arm while holding the handles. Like barbells, resistance bands come in various weights. Incorporating the resistance bands has also allowed me to switch up my workout. I’m always worried about getting bored and resistance bands shake things up a little (in a great way). Using resistance bands is also very safe to be used alone. I was reluctant to purchase heavy barbells, etc. because I have a young child that likes to try some of Mommy’s exercise equipment. Resistance bands are super safe. I’m also excited to take them with me on my next travel adventure. Click the link below to check out the set of resistance bands I have.
Well… I’m going to leave you for now! I’ll be back later with a few more of my favorites. Feel free to drop me a line in the comments! And don’t forget to subscribe to our email list.
Thanks!
